New Market Research Report: Kenya Power Report Q3 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 29, 2011 – The newly published Kenya Power Report from BMI forecasts that the country's power consumption will increase from an estimated 6.4TWh in 2010 to 11.6TWh by the end of the forecast period in 2015, assuming 6.2% average annual growth. After power industry usage and system losses, we see surplus supply rising from the theoretical 0.7TWh level seen in 2010 to 3.5TWh by 2020, assuming 7.9% average annual growth in power generation during the period.

Kenya's power generation in 2010 is put by BMI at 7.1TWh, having risen 2.4% from the 2009 level. BMI is forecasting an average 8.5% annual increase to 10.6TWh between 2011 and 2015. Thermal generation, comprising coal, gas and oil, is expected to grow by 6.4% per annum during the period to 2015, but growth looks set to accelerate later in the decade.

Daewoo is to build and operate a US$1.3bn coal-fired power plant in Kenya with two turbines, each of 300MW. The upgrade is expected to increase output from 40MW to 72MW. Coal-fired generation will account for 31.3% of the country's total generation by 2015, firing a projected 3.3TWh. By 2020, coal's share of generation is forecast at 34.4%, representing 5.2TWh. Kenya plans to spend US$1.4bn in the next two to three years on new geothermal power plants with a total installed generation capacity of 280MW.

Kenya and Tanzania plan to set up a joint natural gas processing plant in Mombasa. The plant will process gas deposits from Tanzania and provide a potential source of gas supply for Kenya, which could find a long-term use in power generation as well as piped supply. The African Development Bank will finance studies for construction of the Dar es Salaam-Tanga-Mombasa natural gas pipeline. Kenya's estimated 2.6TWh of hydro generation in 2010 is forecast to reach 4.0TWh by 2015, rising further to 4.3TWh by 2020, equating to 28.7% of total generation. In January 2010, KenGen signed a contract for an upgrade of the Kindaruma hydro-power station.

Kenya shares sixth place with Nigeria in BMI's updated Power Business Environment Ratings. Its position is vulnerable given the modest size of the market. Growth prospects are good and the proportion of renewables is the highest in the region. However, import dependency is also high and the power sector is not particularly competitive, with limited progress towards privatisation.

"Poland Mining Report Q3 2011" is now available at Fast Market Research

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 26, 2011 – The outlook for Poland's mining sector looks likely to change fundamentally in 2011 due to the government's privatisation drive. Poland is eager to sell the family silver. Indeed, the cash-strapped country is in a hurry to spin-off state assets, and with good reason: Warsaw is acutely aware of the public unease privatisations will create in the run-up to the upcoming October 2011 general elections. Having pumped large sums of money into Poland's troubled coal sector, the government is now hoping to cash in with the sale of Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa (JSW), Poland's large trash bins r.info">garbage compactor review st coking coal producer.

However, this has been met with determined resistance from workers, who went on strike in April 2011, before finally agreeing terms in June, allowing the initial public offering (IPO) to go ahead. In total the government is expecting to raise PLN5.8bn, with one-third of the company to be sold on the open market. However, there are a number of challenges, not least the shaky global economic picture and the poor precedent set by the lack-lustre Bank Gospodarki Zywnosciowej (BGZ) privatisation earlier in 2011. The Polish treasury raised just US$113.7mn from the IPO for BGZ, which equates to about 22% of the maximum it could have raised from the offering. The treasury managed to sell 5.2mn shares in the bank as part of the government's plans to sell its 37% stake (16mn shares).

-------------------------------------------------- ----------Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/prod/209763_poland_mining_report_q ... ------------------------------------------------------------

Copper producer KGHM nearly tripled its net profit for Q111, reported Steelguru. Profits for the quarter reached US$709mn. The state-controlled miner said that its sales jumped by over 46% to US$1.72bn at the same time as copper prices surged.

Meanwhile, Dutch miner NWR has announced that it has received approval from its board of directors to extract coal from the Debiensko mine in Poland. The mining company has completed a feasibility study for the project and expects to break ground before the end of 2011. A feasibility study indicates that the mine has a reserve of 190mn tonnes of coal, allowing for average annual production of 2mn tonnes. NWR expects the first coal to be extracted from the mine in 2017. Total investment in the project will reach EUR411mn, which is modest compared to typical investments in mines, and appears good value considering that NWR has a 50-year licence to mine the resource. NWR is also looking to mine coal at a number of additional coal seams at the site, with approval expected in 2012.

BMI forecasts that Poland's mining sector will achieve real year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 4.4% to reach a value of PLN32.17bn (US$10.90bn) in 2011, followed by 3.6% in 2012, when we predict the total value of the mining sector will be PLN34.26bn (US$11.61bn).

New market study, "Brazil Power Report Q3 2011", has been published

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 24, 2011 – According to BMI's new power industry forecasts, Brazil's electricity consumption is expected to rise sharply in the coming years, increasing from an estimated 448.01TWh in 2010 to 582.43TWh by the end of 2015. We also anticipate a hike in the country's power generation, as the government attempts to meet growing demand and diversify its electricity mix, increasing both nuclear and renewables.

Hydro-electric sources are expected to remain the dominant fuel for electricity generation in the coming years, even though the country has been trying to diversify its electricity generation mix away from this power source because of the inherent risk of power shortages during times of severe drought. We also note that an estimated 16% of power generated has historically been lost in the transmission and distribution process due to the distance between power-generating facilities and end-user markets. These weaknesses in the transmission infrastructure have certainly played a significant role in exposing the country to nationwide power cuts, and the Brazilian government will need to address the problem and increase investments in the coming years.

---------------------------------------------------- --------Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/prod/208346_brazil_power_report_q3 ... ------------------------------------------------------------

On top of these long-term elements, key developments for Brazil's power sector include:

* The 11,200MW Belo Monte hydroelectric power plant project in the Amazon rainforest has been facing continuous delays and difficulties. The controversial US$17bn project, which has provoked protests in Brazil and been criticised by the international community over its impact on the environment and native Indian tribes in the area, saw its construction work suspended from February to March 2011 due to concerns over its environmental standards. Furthermore, in May 2011 three Brazilian private-sector construction companies have formally asked to leave the Norte Energia group that will develop the controversial dam. BMI has long dismissed the project on environmental, financial and economic grounds, and we are not surprised by the multiple delays in the project's execution and the concerns raised by the private sector companies. * Brazilian power company MPX will start buildin manual trash compactor g the Parnaiba thermal power plant by Q311, The 1.86 gigawatt (GW) plant is expected to start commercial operations within two and a half years following the start of construction work. Conventional thermal generating sources provide only a small part of Brazil's electricity supply, especially when compared to other big developing economies. The country has however been investing strongly in its LNG infrastructure and is now attempting to increase the number of planned power plants that will use coal or gas. * Brazilian energy research company EPE has announced that the country's electricity industry expects to invest more than BRL8.5bn (US$5.1bn) on transmission expansion projects through 2015. The anticipated investments will be directed towards the construction of more than 5,450km of transmission lines in the country. Around BRL4.4bn (US$2.6bn) will be required for transmission lines, primarily in northern Amazon region, while BRL1.84bn (US$1.1bn) will be needed for northern Brazil. In addition, the north east region will need BRL1.29bn (US$0.77bn) and construction of new substations will require around BRL1.8bn (US$1.08bn).

New market study, "France Metals Report Q3 2011", has been published

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 22, 2011 – The growth witnessed in French steel consumption and output in 2010 is set to slow in 2011 due to  decreasing rates of private consumption growth, according this latest France Metals Report from BMI.  In the first 11 months of 2010, French crude steel ou manual trash compactor tput was up 21.7% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 11.3mn  tonnes, with blast furnace output up Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi 31.9% y-o-y to 9.1mn tonnes and EAF output up 7.3% to 5.2mn  tonnes. However, growth moderated in H210 with monthly output in November down 1.6% y-o-y and  6.1% m-o-m to 1.29mn tonnes; blast furnace output was down 13.6% y-o-y to 751,000 tonnes while EAF  output was up 21.9% y-o-y to 539,000 tonnes. France's steel industry is lagging behind the rest of the  EU-27 with output up 26.3% y-o-y in 11M10 and 4.1% y-o-y in November. The closure of two French  mills by ArcelorMittal depressed output in H210. BMI estimates that French finished steel consumption  grew 15.2% y-o-y to 13.6mn tonnes, but was still 24% down on the 2007 peak.  Despite the ongoing healthy performance of private consumption, which we have long expected to remain  the key driver of growth going forward, we nevertheless continue to forecast something of a slowdown in  French growth next year. However, we now expect a much less severe dip in growth, with real GDP  forecast to expand by 1.4% in 2011 (from 1.5% in 2010), compared with our previous forecast of 1.0%.  The recovery in the domestic steel market during 2010 - driven by a resilient consumer - is unlikely to be  at a fast enough pace to return consumption to pre-crisis norms in 2011 in our view. Stalling consumer  confidence and fiscal cuts will start to weigh on household spending.  BMI does not envisage a return to pre-recession levels until 2013 or 2014, although there is a possibility  of some plant and furnace closures, which could lead to lower output levels over this period. By 2015,  crude steel output should be around 18.3mn tonnes, which is around 2.2% above 2008 levels. Aluminium  should fare better, helped in part by its use in lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles. By 2015,  aluminium production should have recovered to 2008 levels, provided there is no closure of capacity.  The main constraining factor is the long-term fall in demand from steel-consuming industries, notably the  automotive sector, which is not expected to return to pre-recession rates of production in the next five  years. In 2010, key steel and aluminium flat product consuming industries exhibited a slow recovery,  although growth was principally due to base effects. BMI estimates that vehicle production fell to 1.76mn  units in 2009, a fall of 16% over 2008 and down 43% over 2006 levels. We do not forecast a return to  production volumes of 2mn units or above over the next five years. BMI's automotive team warns that  French production could continue to be eroded by companies moving operations to cheaper Eastern  European bases, although the government's five-year loan to carmakers and the consequent carmaker  commitments will ensure that the fall in output is not too drastic. This will undermine the competitiveness  of French industries up the supply chain due to the resulting increase in transportation costs and the likely  appreciation of the euro against Eastern European currencies over the medium term.    BMI's infrastructure team forecast real industry value growth of -4.4% in 2009 and 0.4% in 2010 before  a recovery is staged in 2011, when growth is forecast at 2.7%, lifting domestic demand for constructionrelated  long steel products. production ratios (RPR). However, country risk is high, oil production growth  prospects are poor and the privatisation trend is unattractive, with increasing state involvement in  upstream activities. Ecuador now holds eighth place, above Venezuela, in BMI's downstream Business  Environment ratings, reflecting an unusually high country risk, regulatory concerns, state ownership of  assets and a less-than-stellar growth outlook. The score falls just one point short of Chile, but there is  little chance of progress in the next few quarters. About Business Monitor International

energy and relatively  low energy import dependency. Regulatory issues and privatisation progress beat the regional average,  but country risk factors offset some of the industry strength. Over the next several quarters, the country  will continue to compete with Chile, given the two-point gap between the two countries.    BMI is now forecasting Colombian average annual real GDP growth of 4.77% between 2011 and 2015,  with an increase of 4.70% assumed for 2011. The population is expected to expand from 46.3mn to  49.3mn over the period, with GDP per capita and electricity consumption per capita forecast to increase  by 31% and 15% respectively. The country's power consumption is expected to increase from an  estimated 45TWh in 2010 to 57TWh by the end of the forecast period. This results in a small supply  surplus after power industry usage and system losses, but occasional power imports will be required if  electricity gene helicop ter technology ration grows at our forecast rate (2011-2015) of an average 4.4% per annum.    Between 2011 and 2020, we are forecasting an increase in Colombian electricity generation of 38.8%,  which is abov trash bins e average for the Latin America region. This equates to 17.5% in the 2015-2020 period,  down from 18.1% in 2010-2015. PED growth is set to rise from 16.4% in 2011-2015 to 18.2% in 2015-  2020, representing 45.2% for the entire forecast period. An increase of 22% in hydro-power use during  2011-2020 is one key element of generation growth. Thermal power generation is forecast to rise by 58%  between 2011 and 2020. New Market Research Report: Canada Infrastructure Report Q3 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 18, 2011 – The onstruction industry in Canada has continued its trend of outperformance this quarter, buoyed by a  particularly healthy PPP sector. The level of PPP involvement is considered world leading and we expect  this to have a positive effect on baseline indicators. Alr Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi forecast">helicopter technology eady figures for 2010 have been revised up on the  first nine months data showing a 5.2% real growth in the construction industry. For 2011 real year-onyear  growth (y-o-y) of 4.1% is forecast vauling ithe industry atUS$92.5bn. Growth is expected to  continue until the end of the forecast period in 2015 when manual trash compactor industry value will be US$110.2bn  Key growth drivers in our forecast include:  The continuing high level of PPP activity in Canada's healthcare sector in particular, coupled with the size  of recent contracts awarded, illustrate the attractiveness of PPPs and also reflect country's relative  strength in this area compared to its peers. As a result we expect to see continued opportunities for  companies with a well-established history of PPPs in the sector.  In October 2010, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), the country's largest pension  manager, announced it was purchasing a US$876mn stake in a major highway, increasing its  infrastructure investment portfolio, despite a period of uncertainty in terms of equi rc helicopter market place ty returns. The  purchase will give the company a 10% share in the 407 Express Toll Route in Greater Toronto. CPPIB is  rated number one in the world for private equity investors and helps to secure the company's prominent  position.  A slew of hydropower projects announcements in the last quarter added confidence to the sector.  Amongst these a new CAD6.2bn (US$6.1bn) hydropower project is likely to change the landscape of  electricity politics in eastern Canada. The project will break the province of Newfoundland and  Labrador's reliance on Quebec, currently the hydro powerhouse of Canada.  We continue to believe that the Canadian economy is due a slowdown going into 2011, in part because of  a slowdown in the crucial US export market, but also because Canadian consumers are set to relent  following a credit binge. For 2011, we are maintaining our 2.4% growth forecast for now. Our overall  view, which we have held since the recovery began, is that Canada is better positioned for growth than  the US, and these growth figures reflect that performance differential, with the US set to expand by 2.6%  in 2010 and just 1.6% in 2011. This equates to an increase of 7.5% in 2015-  2020, up from the expected growth rate of 6.5% in 2011-2015. PED growth is set to fall from 8.8% in  2011-2015 to 3.5% during 2015-2020, representing 12.6% for the entire forecast period. An increase of  65% in hydro-power use during 2011-2020 is one key element of generation growth. Valley Business Center Earns EPA’s ENERGY STAR Certification For Energy Efficiency

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 11, 2011 – The Valley Business Center, owned/managed by Nu-Tech Systems, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) ENERGY STAR certification, which signifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

The Valley Business Center was the only recipient in the Warehouse (Unrefrigerated) category in Colorado Springs and is 1 of only 3 to earn the certification in Colorado.

"Nu-Tech Systems is pleased to accept EPA's ENERGY STAR certification in recognition of our energy efficiency efforts," said Scott Crawford, President. "Through this achievement, we have demonstrated our commitment to environmental stewardship while also lowering our energy costs," Crawford said.

Commercial buildings that earn EPA's ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Nu-Tech Systems improved its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to its building.

There are six separate units in the building used for general warehousing and distribution. The two largest tenants are Empire Staple, a distributor of construction related materials and Atlantic Heating, a heating and air-conditioning contractor. The building has a total of 13,000 sq. ft.

"Improving the energy efficiency of our nation's buildings is critical to protecting our environment," said Jean Lupinacci, Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. "From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning EPA's ENERGY STAR certification."

To earn the ENERGY STAR, Nu-Tech Systems emphasized energy conservation as a key first step in their planning. A critical decision when entering the construction phase was using Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF's) in the perimeter walls. "The ICF's when filled with concrete, provide a sustainable, green built, high-energy efficient structure that is strong and aids in noise reduction'" Crawford said.

Crawford recently completed a second-office-warehouse building on Town Center Drive using ICF's and plans to earn the Energy Star Award on that building.

Owners of sustainably managed buildings expect a four percent higher return on investment (ROI), five percent increases in building value and occupancy, eight percent l trash bins ower operating costs, and a one percent rise in rental income, according to a 2010 report released at the Greenbuild Conference by McGraw-Hill Construction, CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) and the University of San Diego's (USD) Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate.

About 79 percent of owners surveyed believe that green helps them attract and retain tenants, which is a competitive advantage during a difficult economy, according to the report. Crawford agrees with the finding. "The Valley Business Center and the new building on Town Center Drive are 100% leased and the energy efficiencies were a key reason," he said.

The report, "Business Benefits of Green Buildings SmartMarket Report," is the second phase of an ongoing study initiated in 2009 by CBRE and USD. It looks at how commercial building owners, managers, tenant firms and occupants perceive benefits of green buildings as well as the benefits that are driving green building growth in the United States.

According to the report, tenant satisfaction also increases after green upgrades, with 94 percent of managers seeing higher satisfaction levels. Eighty-three percent of tenants also believe they have a healthier indoor environment as a result of green efforts.

EPA's ENERGY STAR energy performance scale helps organizations assess how efficiently their buildings use energy relative to similar buildings nationwide. A building that scores a 75 or higher on EPA's 1-100 scale may be eligible for ENERGY STAR certification. Commercial buildings that can earn the ENERGY STAR include offices, bank branches, data centers, financial centers, retail stores, courthouses, hospitals, hotels, K-12 schools, medical offices, supermarkets, dormitories, houses of worship, and 531276856  warehouses.

ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency.

Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 60 different kinds of products as well as new homes and commercial and industrial buildings that meet strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the EPA. Last year alone, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved $18 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 34 million vehicles.
