New Market Study Published: United States Petrochemicals Report Q3 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 28, 2011 – The US is building on its cost advantages in ethane feedstock with the development of shale gas reserves promising to lead to a revival in investment in cracker capacity over the next five to seven years, according to BMI's latest US Petrochemicals Report.

In Q111, sales and captive use of major plastic resins totalled 18.45bn lbs, up 2.7% year-on-year (y-o-y). Product Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi ion of major plastic resins totaled 18.41bn lbs, an increase of 1.2% y-o-y, implying a net import requirement of 40mn lbs. The most dynamic segment was PVC, with sales growing by 6.2% to 3.58mn pounds, leading to 6.3% growth in output to 3.52mn pounds. This was partly due to the stimulus package that BMI estimates generated 1.6% growth in construction in 2010, as well as restocking and a rise in PVC cargoes to Europe. In addition, the housing market is close to a bottom but shows very few signs of a sustainable recovery, so there is a distinct possibility of PVC sales and production growth falling in H211.

----------------------------------------------------- -------Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/prod/171543_united_states_petroche ... ------------------------------------------------------------

LLDPE and LDPE saw divergent trends in sales, with growth of 1.2% and -1.3% y-o-y to 3.39bn lbs and 1.71bn lbs respectively, leading to output growth of 0.3% and 3.5% y-o-y to 3.48bn lbs and 1.77bn lbs. LLDPE benefited from the competitiveness of US PE output in Asian markets. LLDPE output has been highly robust and resilient to the recession due to its increased use in a broader range of packaging applications, largely at the expense of LDPE. The PS segment saw a stronger recovery from a lacklustre year in 2010 with Q111 sales growing 15.0% y-o-y to 1.38bn lbs and output growing 8.6% to 1.39bn lbs. While HDPE sales were robust with growth of 6.1% to 4.38bn lbs, output grew just 0.5% to 4.25bn lbs, meaning that demand growth largely benefited imports. The worst performing segment was PP, with sales down 4.1% to 4.01bn lbs and production falling 4.8% to 4.0bn lbs.

Polymer resins output growth of around 3.4% in 2010, following significant declines in the previous two years, was below far lower than we had expected and continues to lag behind trends in the overall economy. The rebound will moderate further in 2011 and 2012 and output may not return to pre-recession levels until 2012 at the earliest. We have raised our forecast for real GDP growth in 2011 to 2.6% from 2.9%.

After a period of stagnation and decline, the improved cost position of US petrochemicals bolstered by shale gas discoveries has prompted a flurry of interest in new cracker capacity. Growth in ethane availability paves the way for a potential cracker in the northeast, where the Mar garbage compactor review cellus shale reserves could support a world-scale plant, in addition to those recently announced by CP Chem and Dow Chemical. Bayer recently announced it is considering selling or leasing its property in West Virginia to develop an ethane cracker using ethane feedstock from Marcellus. CP Chem is considering a 1mn tpa cracker at a Gulf Coast site by 2016-17. Formosa Chemical is evaluating plans to boost ethylene capacity at its Point Comfort, TX facility by about 450,000tpa, probably in 2015. Westlake Chemical says it will expand ethane-based ethylene capacity at Lake Charles, LA by 105,000-110,000tpa by end- 2012. A second Lake Charles expansion will be completed by the end of 2014, although the size of the expansion was not disclosed. Cracker restarts include a 225,000 ethylene plant at Eastman Chemical's Longview, TX site. Dow's olefins expansion plan also includes the addition of 2.3mn tpa ethylene capacity through the restarting of its St .Charles complex at Hahnville, LA plant by end-2012, improving or increasing feedstock flexibility at its Plaquemine, LA and Freeport sites by 2014, debottlenecking its Channelview and LaPorte, TX crackers and by building a world-scale ethylene plant on the US Gulf Coast by 2017.

New Market Report Now Available: Saudi Arabia Petrochemicals Report Q3 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 28, 2011 – The Saudi petrochemicals industry is leveraging its advantages in ethane feedstock to expand its Asian markets, with exports, output and production capacity set to continue to expand in 2011, according to BMI's latest Saudi Arabia Petrochemicals Report.

In the first two months of 2011, Saudi Arabia's petrochemicals exports grew 6.8% y-o-y to 4.65mn tonnes. Growth was spurred on by rising demand from Asia and i helicop ter technology ncreased local production of ethane feedstock. A rise in ethane output was related to higher oil production with crude up 300,000b/d to 8.7mn b/d in February which resulted in increased associated gas production. Ethane is Saudi Arabia's main petrochemicals feedstock, accounting for at least 75% of the total.

Saudi Arabia's petrochemicals margins were healthy in 2010, but sales could come under pressure from a moderation in Chinese demand growth. China's annual PE demand is expected to grow by 8-9% in 2011 down from 19% in 2010, but new capacity will reduce imports trash bins by up to 14% from the 7.4mn tonnes imported in 2009. BMI believes this will be more at the expense of neighbouring Asian states while Saudi suppliers will be less affected and should benefit from low domestic ethane feedstock costs.

---------------------------------------------------- --------Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/prod/171526_saudi_arabia_petrochem ... ------------------------------------------------------------

Saudi Arabia's main weakness is its dependence on commodity petrochemicals and a lack of high performance and speciality grades, which can add value to exports and put the industry in direct competition with producers in Japan and other more mature markets. However, the country is making a concerted effort towards the development of downstream industries with Petro Rabigh's expansion involving the creation of facilities dedicated mainly to the plastics converting industry. Petro Rabigh II will be almost entirely dedicated to value-added downstream activities with 17 new facilities including an aromatics complex with combined capacity for more than 1mn tpa of benzene, toluene and xylenes, as well as plants making thermoplastic olefins, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), methyl tert -butyl ether (MTBE), methyl methacrylate (MMA), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), acrylic acid and superabsorbents, cumene, phenol, cyclohexanol, caprolactam, nylon-6, hydrogen peroxide and polyether polyols. A final decision on Petro Rabigh II will be made at the end of this year with completion scheduled for the end of 2015.

Demand for Saudi petrochemicals export has been led by China, which is seeing better than expect growth in orders. A large proportion of growth is related to inventory restocking and the extent to which this is sustained at this level is conditioned by the growth in the Chinese domestic market as well as the continued recovery in its exports of manufactured goods, which utilise imported petrochemicals. BMI does not believe that China can be relied upon to absorb everything that Saudi Arabia exports and it is likely that producers will become more reliant on the European market over the medium term.

By 2015, BMI forecasts ethylene and propylene capacities will rise to 16.52mn tpa and 6.55mn tpa respectively, with Saudi Kayan's commercial operation in 2011 set to contribute most to the increase. Compared with 2010, total PE capacity will rise 20% to 8.86mn tpa, PP will rise 11% and PS, PET and PVC capacities will remain unchanged.

In BMI's Middle Eastern Petrochemicals Business Environment Ratings, Saudi Arabia is rated as the most attractive country out of the 11 surveyed by some margin, with a score of 76.3 points, up 1.3 points as a result of an improvement in Saudi Arabia's long-term external environment. Nevertheless, increasing capacity has helped to push up Saudi Arabia's score in recent quarters, although this is slightly offset by deteriorating external and financial risk scores. The country is placed ahead of the UAE, which is in second place with 63.0 points, and a cluster of other Gulf countries that cannot compete with Saudi Arabia's feedstock or economies of scale. It is also ahead of Iran, which suffers from poor risk levels.

New Market Research Report: France Power Report Q2 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 27, 2011 – The new France Power Report from BMI forecasts that the country will account for 7.66% of power generation in developed markets by 2015, and to remain a net exporter of electricity to neighbouring states. BMI's developed markets power generation estimate for 2010 is 7,270 terawatt hours (TWh), representing an increase of 1.7% over the previous year. We are forecasting a rise in regional generation to 7,809TWh between 2011 and 2015, representing an increase of 5.73%.

BMI estimates that thermal power generation in 2010 will have been 4,267TWh, accounting for 58.7% of the total electricity supplied in the region. Our forecast for 2015 is 4,456TWh, implying 3.19% growth that leaves th Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi e market share of thermal generation only slightly lower at 57.1% - in spite of environmental concerns that have led to the promotion of renewables, hydro-electricity and nuclear generation. France's thermal generation in 2010 will have been an estimated 49.0TWh, or 1.15% of the regional total. By 2015, the country is expected to account for 1.12% of thermal generation.

----------------------------------------------- -------------Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/prod/204730_france_power_report_q2 ... ------------------------------------------------------------

For France, nuclear energy is the dominant fuel, accounting for 39.4% of estimated 2010 PED, followed by oil at 35.3%, gas at 15.5%, coal with a 4.0% share of PED and hydro-electric power with 5.1%. Developed markets energy demand is forecast to reach 4,027mn tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) by 2015, representing 5.71% growth between 2011-2015. France's estimated 2010 market share of 6.67% is set to ease to 6.55% by 2015 while the country's estimated 435TWh of nuclear demand in 2010 is forecast to reach 453TWh by 2015, with its share of the nuclear market in developed markets rising from 25.74% to 26.01% over the period.

BMI is now forecasting French real GDP growth averaging 1.84% per annum between 2011 and 2015, with the 2011 forecast being an increase of 1.70%. Population is expected to garbage compactor review expand from 63.0mn to 63.9mn over the period, but GDP per capita and electricity consumption per capita are forecast to be down 2% and up 6% respectively by 2015. The country's power consumption is expected to increase from an estimated 417TWh in 2009 to 453TWh by the end of the forecast period, providing a theoretical supply surplus of around 57TWh, assuming 1.6% average annual growth (2011-2015) in generation.

Between 2011 and 2020, we are forecasting an increase in French electricity generation of 14.5%, which is in the middle of the range for the developed markets. This equates to 7.0% in the 2015-2020 period, unchanged from the growth rate seen in 2011-2015. PED growth is set to rise from 4.4% in 2011-2015 to 4.7%, representing 9.3% for the entire forecast period. An increase of 50% in hydro-power use during 2011-2020 is one key element of generation growth. Thermal power generation is forecast to rise by 2% between 2010 and 2020, with nuclear demand increasing by 6%. More details of the longer-term BMI power forecasts can be found at the end of this report.

Dumpster Hauling vs. Burning Construction Debris

Recently released market study: China Petrochemicals Report Q3 2011

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 21, 2011 – Chinese petrochemicals output growth appeared to be moderating in H111 as tightening lending conditions led to a lower rates of domestic consumption growth, according to BMI's latest China Petrochemicals Report.

In 2010, ethylene output grew 32.2% y-o-y, to 14.19mn tonnes, primary plastics grew 18.3% y-o-y, to 43.61mn tonnes, and plastic products grew 21.1% y-o-y, to 58.31mn tonnes. The growth trend was consistently upwards throughout most of 2010, indicating that a recovery was being sustained despite the rapid rise in p Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi roduction in the Middle East and a large polymer inventory at the beginning of the year. Howe rc helicopter market place ver, there were signs of moderation from December 2010 with ethylene and primary plastics output failing to beat November highs but staying stable, while plastic products dropped. In the first four months of 2011, ethylene output was up 34.3% y-o-y, to 5.26mn tonnes, primary plastics output was up 8.9%, to 14.99mn tonnes, and plastic products output was down 0.4%, to 15.88mn tonnes. Meanwhile, China Petrochemicals Corporation (Sinopec) reported that chemicals prices increased, with its output of ethylene and synthetic resins rising 26% and 20% in the quarter. The moderation in output is related in part to the tightening lending conditions amid government efforts to combat inflation. This situation has primarily affected the construction and automotive sectors, which had made orders on the basis of assumptions of strong growth levels.

Capacity continues to grow as China maintains its position as the world's petrochemicals consumption growth driver. In March 2011, China's National Development and Reform Commission gave its final approved a previously announced US$9bn refinery and petrochemical JV between Sinopec and Kuwait Petroleum (KP)'s subsidiary Petrochemicals Industries Company (PIC). The news follows environmental and technical approvals of the project by the Chinese government last year. The complex, planned at Donghai Island near Zhanjiang, China will include a 300,000b/d refinery and a petrochemical complex based on a 1mn tpa ethylene plant. Completion is expected in 2013. KP will supply the crude oil to the venture. Sinopec will hold 50% of a JV, with PIC owning 30% and Dow Chemical confirmed as one of two additional overseas partners in the project. The remaining partner will replace Shell, which pulled out of the project in late 2009. Talks have been held with BP and Total as Shell's replacement. The Donghai Island complex is to consist of a 1mn tpa naphtha cracker and include downstream polyolefin and EG plants.

In the Asia Petrochemicals Business Environment Ratings, China's score is 79.0 points, down 0.1 poi trash bins nts since the previous quarter due to a deterioration in country risk scores. It retains its second place in BMI's regional rating, 0.6 points behind Japan and 1.0 point ahead of South Korea. Although China's petrochemicals market ratings are the highest in Asia, it remains weighted down by a relatively poor financial and trade infrastructure and negative risks specific to the petrochemicals sector, namely reliance on imported feedstock and overcapacity in some segments.

Expert Opinion Verifies Revolutionary New steel Making Process for Astra Mining

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 18, 2011 – North Headline, SA - The end product, T-Steel, is significantly stronger than regular steel and provides vast production, operational and environmental benefits.

T-Steel was used commercially to strengthen steel for non-civilian use. Astra has taken the opportunity with the devolution of the Eastern bloc countries to acquire the technology and roll it out globally.

Astra Mining CEO, Dr. Jaydeep Biswas, says the independent verification of the steel's unique properties comes from one of the University of Miskolc's leading metallurgical engineers, Professor Emeritus Dr. Farkas Otto.

"This expert opinion on a study into the preparation of the production of T-Steel confirms it has better qualities compared to traditional steels," Dr. Biswas says.

"It also confirms the CO2 emission in its manufacture can be up to two times less than with traditional steel making technologies, reducing a manufacturing plants carbon footprint which is highly beneficial to the environment.

"Astra has a substantial 30 percent ownership of T-Steel's IP and has full operational and management control of its business, so we are very excited to receive this independent verification."

T-Steel is a direct, high category replacement for the currently produced equivalent steel types and has imm garbage compactor review ediate benefits in high use countries such as China and India. It helicop ter technology can also play a large role in countries trying to reduce C02 emissions such as Australia.

The basic product, which includes the use of unique alloy based formulas invented over a 30 year period in Hungary, is based on a process which can modify the metallurgical properties of steel at a molecular level.

"T-Steel can be produced by existing steel mills with little or no retrofitting needed, however this can only be done if the mills have access to the T-Steel technology and the correct steel plant operation conditions," Dr. Biswas says.

"This makes T-Steel nearly impossible to replicate, as attempts to meet all necessary conditions would cost many hundreds of millions, something that would not be cost effective for individual steel manufacturing companies.

"Astra is in negotiations for a long term co-operation agreement with one the world's largest steel traders for the DAM Steel Works in Hungary which will produce 500,000 tonnes per annum of T-Steel annually.

"The acquisition of DAM Steel plant is not a pre-requisite for rollout for the T-Seel technology, it is one part of a comprehensive business plan, however the relationship would position Astra ideally to capitalise on its strategic growth plan and market T-Steel produ trash bins cts worldwide."

The viability of the T-Steel technology has been verified by extensive independent reporting and the technology is commercially viable due to its strong record of commercial applications, including areas in construction, automotive and machinery.

Companies that have already utilised T-Steel technology in the past include those in vehicle manufacturing and industrial applications.

"A Top 4 accounting firm completed the financial model for the valuation of T-Steel, which is based on a single manufacturing mill producing 500,000 tonnes of steel per annum and a separate business unit distributing the alloy-based formula globally," Dr. Biswas says.

"It is estimated that the project of global commercialisation of T-Steel technology has a NPV over A$6.12 billion, assuming the level of risk is in line with industry average.

"Based on the 30 percent IP ownership, Astra's share is extremely valuable to our company."

Astra Mining's global portfolio includes 1086274749  gold and tin interests in south east Asia and southern India, coal mines in Australia, iron ore in India, and the production of a new high-strength steel technology.

Astra has also confirmed its plans to list on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange before the end of August.

New market study, "United States Mining Report 2011", has been published

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 17, 2011 – Unlike many developed world countries, the US still maintains a sizeable mining sector, with an estimated value of US$322bn in 2010. The US remains rich in deposits of many minerals and metals, including coal, copper, gold, lead, molybdenum, silver, uranium and zinc, among others.

Given the size of the country's remaining natural resources, coupled with the fact that global markets now seem to be firmly in re garbage compactor review cov trash bins ery mode, the outlook should be bright for the extractive sector of US mining over the coming five years. We foresee an increase in the total value of the US mining sector t helicop ter technology o US$523bn by 2015, with significant new projects planned for the key copper, gold and uranium sectors.

-------------------------------------------------- ----------Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/prod/169895_united_states_mining_r ... ------------------------------------------------------------

Of particular note is the Twin Metals project being developed in Minnesota by Antofagasta and Duluth Metals, as well as the Pebble Mine being developed in Alaska by an Anglo American/Northern Dynasty Minerals joint venture (JV), although these two projects both remain in the exploration stage at present.

The country's biggest copper miner, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, also has extensive expansion plans under way at its Morenci mine in Arizona (aimed at increasing copper production by approximately 125mn lbs per year) and is also planning to reopen its Chino copper mine in New Mexico. Both of these mines should add an estimated 150ktpa (thousands tonnes per annum) to US copper production from 2014 onwards, which we have reflected in our copper production forecasts. In addition, Romarco Minerals has completed a feasability study on its Haile gold project, which is likely to produce some 150,000oz per annum over its first five years of operation and in late 2010 Texas-based Uranium Energy Corporation announced the start of production at its Palanga project, the first new uranium mine opening in the US in five years.

With so many new mining projects scheduled to come onstream, we are also forecasting an increase in the contribution of the mining sector to overall US GDP, from 2.33% in 2011 to 2.81% by 2015. The resultant increase in production and GDP will also result in an increase in employment within the sector - which will be a boon to a country still struggling to some extent through a 'jobless recovery' at the present time.

US top of our Business Environment Rankings for 2011

The United States has moved to the top of our newly-updated Business Environment ratings for 2011, with a score o manual trash compactor f 69.2 (out of 100). This score was mostly driven by a country structure score of 79.9, the highest in the region. The US possesses one of the most investor-friendly environments in the world, with few barriers to entry in addition to a solid regulatory and legal environment. The US has a well-developed mining sector, particularly in terms of copper, lead, gold and zinc. In addition, the US looks set to be one of the countries to benefit from increased demand for non-Chinese sources of rare earths, with the development of the Mountain Pass rare-earth mine in California.

The planned Twin Metals and Pebble Mine projects also have the capacity to increase wider US output of metals significantly later in this decade.

Safety Systems Technology Launches Guarding Service To Protect

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 16, 2011 – Motivated by significant changes to the Machinery Directive Safety Systems Technology has set up garbage compactor review a bespoke service to design, manufacture and install machinery guarding, ensuring that machine manufacturers and users are compliant with the changes that have recently come into force.

Given their essential safety role, guards are often treated surprisingly casually and continue to be the cause of many inju manual trash compactor /kenmore-bisque-15-inchi-convertible-compactor-full-specification.html ">Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi ries and accidents that could have been prevented had appropriate and fit-for-purpose guards been in use.

With this in mind, it's not surprising that current safety legislation gives a lot of attention to guards and as a result a great many individuals and companies are breaking health and safety laws without being aware that they are doing so. The new Machinery Safety Directive, 2006/42/EC, which came into force at the end of 2009, introduced a whole range of new requirements for guards, not the least of which is that they must carry CE marking.

To carry CE marking a product must comply with all applicable EU standards and there are a great many standards that apply to guards. Just a few examples are EN 953, Safety of Machinery – Guards – General Requirements; EN ISO 13857 – Safety of Machinery – Safety distances to prevent hazard zones being reached by upper and lower limbs; and EN 349 – Safety of Machinery – Minimum gaps to avoid crushing of parts of the human body. There are many others, including many "Type C" standards that apply specifically to particular types of machine.

"Clearly, achieving full standards compliance for a guard, which is necessary if it is to carry the CE marking, is no trivial task. And it's certainly not a task that can be readily tackled with an ad-hoc design and the services of the local engineering company" says Gary Trewhitt of Safety Systems Technology. "CE marking, along with the design and manufacture of guards, now requires specialist expertise which is why we have launched our new guarding service" .

This need for expertise is further reinforced when the other changes to guarding requirements brought in by the new Machinery Safety Directive are considered. Section 1.4.1 of the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (ESHRs) now requires that guards must protect against the ejection of falling materials and objects. Section 1.4.2. trash bins 1 has added requirements that for fixed guards, the fixing systems must remain attached to the guards when removed, and also that, where possible, guards must be incapable of remaining in position without their fixings.

In some cases these new requirements may be easy to satisfy, but in many they will not, and in 1086274749  every case a considerable level of expertise will be needed to ensure that guards satisfy all regulatory requirements. In these cases, specialist guarding design, assessment and manufacturing services, of the type offered by Safety Systems Technology's guarding service, offer a convenient, affordable and dependable solution.

Continuing Exploration at Don Luis

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 15, 2011 – Road building for garbage compactor review drill access to the Central Zone, and RC drilling at about 100 meters a day in the West Zone (we are currently on hole DLS11RC040) on Rome's Don Luis Property was the focus this week. The temperature in the field is c rc helicopter market place limbing to about 40 degrees Celsius and we plan to switch to drilling during the night when it is cooler in the Sonora Desert. For this we will need to buy a portable generator and some flood lights.

The first, left picture below, shows the road building on the Central Zone. The picture to the right shows how dusty the drill site on the Western Zone can become—especially if there is no breeze or the breeze is blowing in an awkward direction. Dust masks are worn at all times.

The bottom picture gives an idea of how a RC hole is started. This picture shows a casing bit (left) that is driven by an air hammer (center). The bit when in operation and in clockwise rotation is larger than the diameter of the casing (not shown), but can be rotated  counterclockwise to a smaller size so it can be withdrawn upward inside the casing after it has been successfully installed or set. Chips from the hammer are blown around the  hammer manual trash compactor and into the slots marked "interchange". Thus, sampling can start at the top of a hole.

Work next week will continue the same program as outlined above. We should soon have additi Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi onal assay results that will be merged with geology from the chip 1086274749  logs.

Market Report, "Chile Mining Report Q3 2011", published

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 09, 2011 – Chile's mining sector faces a series of challenges over the coming months as growing fears of a slowdown in Chinese economic growth, dictated by the country's increasingly restrictive monetary policy, threatens to restrict demand for copper and other raw materials. Nevertheless, we remain confident that the mining industry is primed for substantial growth over the next few years and expect a substantial increase in silver, copper and especially gold output over the forecast period to 2015. Growth is likely to peak in 2012 and 2013 as several new expansion projects come to fruition.

Copper Sector To Overcome Short-Term Obstacles

Copper remains the most important sub-sector within Chile's mining landscap rc helicopter market place e, accounting for 42% of the country's total export revenues in 2009. Over the short term, we warn that Chile's copper production is likely to be restricted by falling grades at some of the largest mines, including Collahuasi and Escondida, leading us to revise our output forecast downwards in Q311. However, we expect a significant boost in output over the medium term as several expansion plans come online.

--------------------------------------------------- ---------Full Report Details at - http://www.fastmr.com/prod/169405_chile_mining_report_q3 ... ------------------------------------------------------------

The most recent data from Chile's National Statistics Institute (INE) indicate that the country's copper production fell by 6.6% y-o-y in February 2011, marking a 0.1% y-o-y decrease for the first two months of the year to 817kt. The decline in output in February was due to un manual trash compactor scheduled maintenance at BHP Billiton's Cerro Colorado mine and falling grades at the joint venture between BHP and Rio Tinto at the Escondida mine. In addition, lower grades reduced production at the Collahuasi mine, a joint venture between Xstrata and Anglo American.

The long-term prospects for copper production look positive, however, with several expansion projects expected to come online over the medium-term. The largest expansion project is at the Collahuasi mine, where output will increase from 535ktpa to over 1mtpa by 2014. Anglo American also plans to increase output by 50% to 300ktpa at its Los Broncos mine by 2012. Overall, we expect Chile's copper production to grow at annual average rate of 4.9% over the forecast period, reaching 6.87mnt in 2015, up from 5.42mnt in 2010.

Regulatory Environment

Chile has the rare combination of a very favourable business environment and substantial mineral reserves. The increased mining tax from 4-5% of operating profit to 4-9% has so far been met by little opposition from miners, either local and overseas. In addition, Chile's reserves of copper and gold are likely to outweigh any concerns over tax rates. Overall, Chile will remain a highly attractive country for foreign investment as the centre-right government is eager to maintain foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into the country. That said, we expect Chile to tighten its safety laws after the collapsed mine at San Jose that highlighted the lack of regulation in the mining sector in the country.

Key Players

Chile's mining sector is dominated by the state-owned Codelco, as well as Xstrata, Anglo American and Antofagasta, which operate almost all the largest copper mines. We expect the silver mining sector to become more fragmented, with Genesis Minerals and Laguna Resources developing large deposits. Gold and copper production is likely to remain consolidated, with the largest companies continuing to dominate output and exploration.
