TÜV Rheinland Holds First Elevator Energy Efficiency Seminar in Hong Kong

NVision Scanner Helps Reverse Engineer Key Impellor at Hydroelectric Plant

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 26, 2011 - Engineers from NVision, Inc., using the company's HandHeld Scanner, were able to quickly reverse engineer a large impellor for a major hydroelectric facility, sparing the facility what would have been manual trash compactor an extended shutdown had they needed to produce a replacement impellor from scratch. In less than one week, NVision scanned the original impellor and provided a computer model of it to the facility, which then used the model to manufacture a duplicate impellor for installation. In the end, only a relatively short shutdown was necessary to accommodate the scanning and reproduction of the impellor.    

The turbines that move the water in hydroelectric plants employ massive impellors to get the job done. In this case, one of the facility's key impellors had suffered damage that forced the facility to replace it. However, the facility did not possess a computer model of the impellor, which was necessary in order to manufacture a replacement. The facility's management contacted NVision to produce a computer model of the impellor. Two days after the initial contact, with a refurbished impellor temporarily in use as a replacement, an NVision engineer was on site to scan the impellor using the HandHeld laser scanner.

The HandHeld scanner is attached to a mechanical arm which moves about the object being scanned, freeing the user to capture data rapidly and with a high degree of resolution. An optional tripod provides complete portability in the field. Intuitive software allows full model editing, polygon reduction, and data output to all standard 3D packages.

"The HandHeld laser scanner was perfect for this project because its ability to move freely around a part makes it possible to reverse engineer components of virtually any size and shape," said Colin Ellis, Engineering Manager at NVision. "In this case, the spacing of the blades was large enough for the laser scanning head to fit through."

Scanning took eight hours, and included data from t trash bins hree locations situated throughout the part, with data being indexed into the same coordinate system using geometric features. After the data was collected and processed into an STL mesh, a SolidWorks model was created in two days. The facility received the completed model of the impellor just six working days after first calling NVision with their problem. The computer model was used to manufacture an exact duplicate of the original impellor.

"By using laser scanning to reverse engineer the impellor the facility was able to avoid a lengthy and costly shutdown," said Ellis. "As a side benefit of the scanning, we found that the impellor being used as a replacement was greatly out of balance, with no easy way of manually checking the part to see where the problem lay. Fortunately, using our inspection software, we were able to rotate and compare the data virtually, allowing precise indication of problem areas."

I am pleased to report that Asia Carbon continues to perform well in 2011, maintaining the trends that were established in the 4th quarter of 2010, and we have seen material improvements in both revenue and income. Annual car sales are expected to exceed 20 million units in China by 2015, according to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the demand for tires is expected to follow suit. China's Rubber Industry Association reports approximately 404 million tires were sold in 2010; with the demand for replacement tires at about twice the level of that for new vehicle tires. While China has become the world's largest producer of automobiles and tires, we believe the full potential of its vehicle market is yet to develop, and we hope to participate fully in this growth.

As we reported in our quarterly report on Form 10-Q filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission on August 12, 2011, Asia Carbon generated $26.94 million in revenues during the first six months of 2011, more than twice the $11.15 million for the first six months in 2010.  Net income for the six month period was $4.09 million in 2011 as compared to $695,196 during the same period of 2010.

DSV steps up graduate recruitment for sales positions

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 18, 2011 - DSV Road and DSV Solutions in the UK have just completed their first recruitment programme aimed at graduates.  They were so impressed with the calibre of the candidates that they Kenmore Bisque 15 inchi have selected 12 graduates, increasing the sales team by 40%.

"We were initially offering six positions, but decided to increase that after seeing the high quality of the candidates at the assessment day," explains Chris Malyon, Director Sales and Marketing. Ten of the graduates were taken on by DSV Road with the other two joining DSV Solutions.

Mr Malyon explains that the subject of a candidate's degree was not the most crucial criteria for selection. "We are looking for people who understand how to relate well to clients and potential clients – listening to them and being able to assess their requirements and needs."

Some of the 12 graduates are filling existing vacancies, while new roles are created for the others. "We are focussing on organic growth trash bins which is key to our success in this area, and a catalyst for future success. We are sure that these graduates will develop into top sales people," says Mr Malyon.

DSV worked with the recruitment agency Pareto Law, a graduate sales specialist, which selected 45 potential candidates for the assessment day.

The graduates, who begin working at DSV in September, will be given 13 days training by Pareto as well as immediate inclusion in the DSV Sales Academy. They will be taught all aspects of sales, such as presentation skills, client-needs analysis and booking meetings.

DSV Road , which is the third largest road freight operator in Europe,  has been focussing on people development and sales training over the last few months, establishing a Sales Academy for existing staff and designing new programmes for apprentices.

Mr Malyon says: "We have looked carefully at our client base and seen there is a lot of potential to offer more of our services to many of our existing clients, so we are building better processes to make sure we can identify that potential, as well as winning new clients."

Protective Packaging Announces Corrosion Prevention Services

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 17, 2011 - As the economy has slowed over the last few years, companies have been forced to lay off workers and shut down factories, plants and manufacturing facilities. This has lead to an upsurge in the need for properly securing and preserving costly equipment and machinery while it is dormant. If they don't take safeguarding precautions now, companies face the expensive task of refurbishing and/or replacing equipment when the time comes to produce.

While working with several companies facing plant shutdowns, Protective Packaging Corporation has helicop ter technology developed a range of corrosion prevention services tailored to meet large-scale corrosion prevention demands. These services include site analysis, corrosion assessment, preservation recommendations, training and on-site packaging. "Executives are realizing that they can preserve equipment now for a fraction of the cost of refurbishing or replacing it in the future," commented Protective Packaging Corporation President Steve Hanna.

A case in point: A large gas plant in South America shut down due to economic pressures and top-level management was unaware of the corrosive decay that had set in over a relatively short period of time. Precision Quincy's new Double Conveyor Oven defies traditional conveyor concept and design

This new and highly modified conveyor model features a gas-fired top-mount heat chamber. Blake Lapthorn – Companies prosecuted for Legionella exposure

This month, it has issued a news report stating that two companies have been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Exec garbage compactor review utive (HSE) for Legionella exposure.

Blake Lapthorn's Health and Safety team report that the prosecutions involved a company in the manufacturing industry and the firm hired to carry out the cleaning and maintenance of its three water-cooling towers.

According to the article, the HSE found that neither company had taken the necessary steps to control the potential spread of Legionella bacteria. This included failing to assess the risk of Legionella, and not cleaning and maintaining the water-cooling system to a satisfactory standard.

The manufacturer was fined £80,000 by the HSE and ordered to pay £45,000 costs, while the water treatment company was fined £40,000 and ordered to pay £80,000 costs.

The article also notes that even where there has not been an outbreak of Legionnaire's disease, companies can still be prosecuted if they have not taken preca rc helicopter market place utions to control the risks in accordance ACoP L8 guidelines.

Continuing Exploration at Don Luis August 6th

PRLog (Press Release) - Aug 13, 2011 - There has been a lapse in Rome's Weekly Reports due to reorganization of our Mexican operations. We now have a new drill crew working with our Prospector II Reverse Circulation Drill (left photo below). Drilling costs have been cut by: (i) using one company 4-wheel drive vehicle instead of renting t manual trash compactor hree vehicles, (ii) reducing the drill crew with supervisor from six persons to four, and (iii) eliminating time-consuming provision of meals to the crew. In addition as before, we hire a watchman to guard the drill during the night and holidays. The new crew has had some sta garbage compactor review rt-up trash bins learning, so the rate of drilling has been a little slower. However, we have now completed 59 holes. Some of the latest holes have been shorter at about 50 meters to give the new crew training experience before returning to the usual 100 meter target depth. Logging of the chip boards also has fallen behind. In the coming weeks this geological control will be brought up-to-date. Sample pulps have not been analyzed with our Niton XRF instrument, but a new analyst will start next week. Analysis with this instrument for tungsten, molybdenum and lead is important because these valuable elements add significant dollar value to the West Zone mineralization.

All drilling and analysis, above, is still on the West Zone of the Don Luis Property. Currently, the first 29 RC drill holes are being analyzed carefully to evaluate potentially economic mineralization. The results of this analysis will be released in a News Release soon.

Sonoran Desert summer is marked by thunder storms that bring needed water and a break from drought—the cow in the right photo just did not make it by about a week! But it is hot working in the desert at this time. Drilling next week will involve holes placed around drill holes with particularly interesting values in gold and silver. The objective, of course, is to see if higher grade sections in the West Zone can be identified and expanded.
